VELVET PLAIN CURTAINS
Velvet curtains have a soft, dense pile that catches the light and gives a window a rich, cosy look. These are plain velvets, one colour each, so the texture does the talking. They suit living rooms, bedrooms and period homes where you want warmth and a bit of luxury. Velvet changes with the light and with the angle you look from, so order up to 5 free samples from our free sample service before you decide; they arrive in 2 to 3 working days.
Where velvet works best
Velvet hangs in full, heavy folds and makes a room feel warmer as soon as the curtains are drawn, which helps a lot with draughty sash windows. It looks wonderful on a tall living room window in a Victorian terrace, or in a bedroom where you want a snug feel. In a small kitchen or bathroom it is too heavy and holds on to steam and cooking smells. A pinch pleat heading suits velvet, holding the weight in neat columns. Add interlining for extra drape and warmth; our curtain lining guide explains how.
Choosing a colour
Deep shades such as emerald, navy and plum show off the sheen best. Blush, sage and stone feel more relaxed in a lighter room. Because the pile catches light, the same velvet looks lighter from one side and darker from the other, which is exactly why samples matter. Our green and teal curtains include rich shades. For care, vacuum gently with an upholstery brush; made to measure curtains should be professionally dry cleaned.
