NATURAL/CREAM CURTAINS
Cream curtains are the safest choice at almost any window, and natural and cream is our largest curtain colour range: ivory, oatmeal, linen, sand and stone. A cream curtain softens daylight without darkening the room, and it will still suit the walls when you next repaint. We offer a local installation service for curtains, and our curtain fitting guide covers the job if you'd rather hang them yourself.
Which cream suits your room?
Hold samples against the wall in daylight, because a cream changes with every wall it sits beside. Ivory and soft white look fresh in a north-facing room. Oatmeal, biscuit and sand have more yellow and brown in them, which warms a cool space and suits oak and walnut. Stone and greige sit between cream and grey, the best bet if your walls are grey but your floor is warm wood. Brilliant white rarely works on a curtain, as it can look blue next to other whites. Up to 5 fabric samples are free.
Are cream curtains hard to keep clean?
They show marks more than darker shades, mostly on the leading edge where hands touch, so use tie-backs in a hallway or a child's room. Made to measure curtains should be professionally dry cleaned, and a regular going-over with an upholstery brush keeps the dust down.
Which heading looks best?
In a formal room a pinch pleat looks more finished than a plain eyelet. Our pinch pleat guide explains double versus triple.
