GREY/BLACK CURTAINS
Grey curtains are the neutral that copes with real life. Our grey and black range runs from dove and silver grey to charcoal and near black, and suits modern living rooms, bedrooms that want a darker feel at night, and homes where cream would look grubby within a month. Undertones vary a lot, so it helps to see them in person at our showroom, 58-68 Green Lane Road, Leicester LE5 3TH (Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm, Saturday 11am to 5.30pm).
Warm grey or cool grey?
Check the undertone before anything else. Warm greys with a hint of taupe sit well with cream walls, oak floors and brass. Cool, blue-tinted greys suit white walls, chrome and rooms with strong afternoon sun. Charcoal and black make a striking frame for tall windows and high ceilings. In a small, dim room they can feel heavy, so keep them to one feature window there. And if your walls are cream, go warm: a cool grey looks stark beside cream.
What works with grey and black curtains?
Grey is a good backdrop for colour. Mustard cushions, a teal armchair or a patterned rug all stand out against it. For a darker bedroom, hang grey curtains in front of one of our blackout blinds, or choose a blackout lining (our curtain lining guide explains the options). A slubby weave stops grey looking flat, and our plain texture curtains are full of them.
